You can now watch the full webinar here: Education in Scotland and Wales: Election discussion event
Join us for a discussion about Scotland and Wales’s education reform journeys during the last 25 years, and what could, and needs to, happen next.
With parliamentary elections in both nations on May 7th, here’s a chance to hear from educational leaders on the issues that matter. Why have the most recent PISA results gone backwards? What more can be done to close the attainment gap? How are pupils with additional needs being supported? Can both nations learn from reforms elsewhere?
Enlighten’s Commission on School Reform Manifesto sets out an ambitious programme of reform for the next Scottish Government – does Wales need the same prescription?
This panel discussion, a partnership between Enlighten and PolicyWISE will consider what Scotland and Wales can learn from each other – successes and challenges – and what might the next period of reform mean for learners and education staff.
The panel will include:
Owain Lloyd, Director of Education, Children & Family Services, Carmarthenshire County Council
Laurel Davies, Headteacher Ysgol Gymraeg Ystalyfera Bro Dur
Keir Bloomer, Chair of the Commission on School Reform, education consultant and Chair of the Northern Ireland Independent Review of Education
Carole Ford, Member of the Commission on School Reform, Former head teacher and former president of School Leaders Scotland
The discussion will be chaired by Dewi Knight, director of PolicyWISE
