Policy making beyond Westminster: Economic lessons from 25 years of national devolution.

Your chance to attend a unique event (in person or online) to hear our panel share their experiences of how the governments in Belfast, Cardiff, Edinburgh, and Westminster have used economic policy levers differently, whether to raise revenue or address priorities like reducing child poverty. We will be joined by speakers from all parts of the United Kingdom, including the former First Minister of Wales and Deputy First Minister of Scotland.

Some of the questions they will be addressing include: Have different growth strategies been pursued across the nations, and what are the different approaches to strategic economic policy making? Has the devolution of economic powers gone too far or not far enough? And what lessons can policy makers learn from devolution – and from each other – to improve economic decision making across the whole United Kingdom?

At PolicyWISE, we are committed to cross-nation policy learning, research, and knowledge exchange and we’re delighted to be working with our friends at the Resolution Foundation to produce and host this conference. Ahead of the event, we have published a briefing note setting out the differences in devolved tax regimes and definitions of economic prosperity.

The event will be in person, and broadcast via YouTube and on the Resolution Foundation website. Viewers will be able to submit questions to the panel before and during the event via Slido. Sign up here.
